PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene products, PTFE (TFE) and Kynar manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide requirement for this mineral has increased significantly, and the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and incredibly low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is used within a good deal of applications from non-stick fry cookware to ptfe tape for use at home. This mineral is actually a important raw material in the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and lots of refrigerants. This increased demand bundled with shortage of raw materials has caused a dramatic price increase (almost double during the last year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to stay in affect in the near future.
